Nokia e61 vs Nokia e61i - Part 2

Okay here is the second part I will slowly and in detail cover the goodies inside THE Nokia e61i. We have to keep enticing people to buy this phone or have spoilers for those who don’t.

The Active Standby Screen!

The active standby screen is a one glance of what your phone is doing whether it be a missed call, unread sms message, push mail/pop mail, calender, to do items and of course the WLAN wizard. This feature makes it easy to know whats going on. Of course if you are listening to music your track being played is shown. The best part in the active standby screen is it can be completely configured to suit your needs.

To add or edit your active standby screen go to tools - settings - standby mode - Active standby “plugins” (whoever thought of the word plugins, Nokia is catching up web 2.0 it seems). Now you can select or deselect anything you want as shown in screen below.

I find this feature extremely interesting especially when I am away I can tell what the hell has happened on my device. As I am a serious message junkie it keeps the adrenaline pumped if you know what I mean. Okay enough rambling.

Notification Light

Another add on though the e61 had it but this is again completely customizable and yes this time it really does work . They are 2 options here “blink light for” I have mine for 5 minutes but you can increase the time to 15, 30 or even to 2 hours that is if you want to get “hypnotized”. The other option is to select notify light that can be missed call, email, sms and mms as shown below. (At the time of writing this post I did get some complaints that notify light is not working, so please check as soon as you get the device)

Additions in Menu

First noticeable icon is Downloads. When you click on downloads it has an icon based category folder system I would say an improved version of the previous catalog. Too my heigtened excitement I thought their will be plenty of goodies but unfortunately the same softwares available before except for a few interesting folder….now hear this but I will keep you guessing for now and continue in Part 3.

as a doctor how helpful this device can prove for me? i need to keep appointments, surgeries posted, details of the operation and patient, browse journals and keep in touch with friends allover by email,,make powerpoint presentations for teaching, and maintain a excel worksheet for different purposes,to do list with priorities, and most important…i need to write a lot of matter whenever it comes to my mind as i am writing a book and to transfer it to the laptop. i feel that nokia e61i will cope up with all this.and another question is how is the interraction between symbian and microsoft os. can i edit the matter when it is on the laptop(ms home)? can you pl advise and recommend anything else?

    Hi Mahendra,

You can easily write your book on it as I write a lot of notes as well which I keep emailing to myself. Adding appointments and to do can be set easily with alarm, priorities etc.
Symbian is a much more stable and powerful device
then the latter. You can view your presentations and word, excel document but in order to edit you will have to update the buit in software. Relatively I find word easier to use as a detailed excel sheet and heavey power pont presentation will be cumbersome.
