Using Keypad shortcuts on your Nokia e61i and other s60 devices…
Thanks to Lehman one of my readers and Angel at mobilefasicination who got me into this. We all know there are a lot of key shortcuts available on our device but either we keep forgetting them or do not use them to the maximum. I thought I will refresh everyone what they are and how they can help us in our device handling and allotting other active standby keys for different uses. Let me know if you know of any so we can keep updating.
Keys on active standby
0
0 to open up service or wap browser while it should open up the web browser since we hardly use the wap or services browser.
Lock Keypad
Press left blue key and blue up arrow key to lock the phone, do the same to unlock
Camera button
Keep the camera key pressed when you get a sms message it will play your message
Keys 1 to 9
Go to menu > tools > spd dial configure your 1 to 9 keys to speed dial a contact. Again this was helpful to speed dial without using your contacts.
Activate bluetooth
Blue up arrow key and ctrl activate bt, repeating the same deactivates
Activate IR
Blue up arrow key and chr activate IR
#
Keep the # sign pressed toggles between silent and general profile
Red or end key
If a gprs or wlan connection is active keep end or red button pressed to stop all connections
Using Keys in Messaging
Ctrl + C to copy
Ctrl + V to paste
In Video/Realplayer mode
Press 2 for full screen
Do contribute your shortcuts as well!
Strange enough 6 hours after making this post I am actually using the key options especially for BT and Profile changes.

Excellent! - most happy to have sparked this article from you!
I just thought I’d put my 2 cents in:
To have your SMS’ read to you using the built-in voice synth: press and hold THE LEFT SOFTKEY (key under the screen, over the green answer key) when you have an unread message. The camera-button on my phone is the RIGHT softkey, so it may not be the same for everyone - just clearing that up.
The BlueTooth-shortcut and the silent/general toggle were new to me - thanks for sharing! And thanks for a great (couple of) blog(s)!

Great post! It’ll be nice to have all Eseries shortcuts in one place! The BT/Ir ones I just learned as well and posted about on my blog (SiMo). And thanks to lehmann for his addition - I did not know that!
I also didn’t know that left softkey func would lock the keypad! I don’t even need an autolock app anymore.
Here’s three more that I don’t see above:
A long-press of the record button (on the side under the volume buttons) will initiate voice command. For Nseries, a long-press of the right soft key will initiate voice command.
A long-press of the Email key will open a new blank email from the default mailbox.
A long-press of the Own key will open the Own key configuration screen.
Also to clarify one of the ones above, holding # will actually switch between your first two listed profiles. So for example I’ve made my first profile general and my second “Vibrate” so # will switch between those two (my phone is never on silent). Also in some variants of fw, holding # will switch between line 1 and line 2 instead of profiles.

Thank you for all the shortcuts. Some of them are coming back to mind as I was reading. This is a great contribution!

I discovered that you can use the “blue” keys to quick acces folders and application in the menu. So for instance 1 corresponds to the most top left icon in the menu and 0 to the most bottom right menu icon.
It’s weird that Nokia doesn’t have this overview online or in the manual.

Great stuff!
How about this one, perhaps superfluous but hey…
Keep pressing the menu button and all active applications appear! I am always using it and keeps me having to access the application folder.
Keep up the good work!

Great shortcuts, many of which I use regularly but some are not documented and very helpful. The fredkadet one is actually written in the owners manual and is the correct way to switch between open applications. Another useful one is a short press of the on/off key, which brings up a menu where you can select from your profiles and lock the keypad.

quick question - what model keyboard was used in the photo of the E61i?
i have a different keyboard and the keys are slightly different.
if i had your keyboard layout - my typing error would be gone! my ? and / are in different places, but they would be correct if I had your keypad.. let me know!!
