Time to reset your Nokia e61i?

After 3 months of heavy usage, installing various softwares, capturing hundreds of images and video clips the device did remain fast but started showing signs of instability. The usual memory full error close applications, safari browser closing itself, messaging becoming slow and gallery taking a long period to open up. In some cases like calender and gallery the option button not working became the norm. Did I overload the device? yes, absolutely but remember like all other platforms need tweaking so does the symbian. I strongly believe with all the installations, viruses that we don’t know every device needs to be optimized.

After backing up my data I decided to do a soft reset. I typed in *#7780# for soft reset. The device asked for a lock code which is 12345 and the phone restarted. But I could still see the same problems, my contacts and all details stored on the device were still there. So I thought I would do a hard reset *#7370# the phone again asked for lock code restarted which took some time and asked for the location as it does when we open a new device. After going through the wizard I was back to the original settings of the device, same dots theme, configure your voice mail… etc. The contacts were gone, all sms’s etc, it was finally new. The device was “reborn” it became much faster all the buttons were working properly. For some reason I could not open some programs on the memory card but as I had made a backup it was not a biggie. I was one happy user again. My suggestion make sure to backup everything before you do a hard reset. In fact I would suggest 2 backups one on the memory card and the other one through PC suite or data cable. I am very excited as the device has become brand new again. I would strongly suggest that we all do this every quarter to keep the device tuned and optimized as we would keep our cars or other items of daily use.

got it, scroll to the top of the screen, for example if u wanna download a game,u can see the post but there is no link to download it, so as mentioned go to the top of the screen to the main menu and click games, there u will be able to download anything u want

hi pips. whats the difference between the soft and hard reset?

  5. hairylongone Says:

Well, the OPTION button wont work in the dialed or missed or received log and it wont work while viewing an image.

Other than these screens, the option button works fine.

    Time to rest!

pidz, a soft reset is the equivalent of re-booting (like removing the battery from your phone). It does not remove any data. A hard reset takes the phone back to original settings and removes all data.

I have done hard and soft reboots several times, and each time I still get a ‘memory full’ error message when I attempt to sync to my Outlook w/PC Suite. My calendar no longer updates from Outlook, even after having wiped all calendar entries out altogether. What next?
