Emoze - Push email solution for gmail on your symbian version 3 device!
I am addicted to push email of any sort or form so as a serious fan of “gmail”what could be more fun then getting gmail emails as a push based mail option. So I thought I will give it a try and this time emoze has released a way to connect to there global server rather then through pc connectivity which frankly speaking was ridiculous.
After going through the necessary setup configurations i.e selecting your default wifi connection it will ask for andthis is important whether you want push via pc connector or using emoze global gateway. Choose global gateway, then on the next screen select gmail. Now the next screen is very important I must have missed out on this one and screwed up my contacts so be careful. You will get the option to select what you want pushed calender, contact, drafts or inbox. Select what you want I would select inbox only. BEWARE: Your contacts may be duplicated if you select from your gmail account so I strongly suggest a backup of contacts easiest way to do it is go to contacts mark all copy all to memory card. Later on you can you copy back from memory card. After you have completed the setup formality it will then ask for your gmail address.
Once you have filled in your necessary gmail information it will start syncing with your gmail account and the screen will say initializing push, this will take some time initially, so be patient.
Once the syncing is done you will start seeing your emails and an icon will show on the top right hand corner in red and your default emoze mailbox will automatically be created in your messages, mailbox called emoze. Click on it and presto you have all your mails there from gmail.
In your setup file you have a few options to change your settings as shown below:
Login option is if you want to change your gmail settings. Connections are to change emoze server ip don’t change this, your access point and autostart option. You can also set rules in calender, contacts, inbox, drafts or example mobile deletion, get emails from last 1 or 3 days etc. Log file is also available.
Overall it is a great push solution for gmail though it does have a few kinks as it does lose connectivity, emails tend to open a bit slow in mailbox etc. I would say it will get better with time and their is no hamr in trying it as it is completely free!
Download it clicking on the referrals on the right side or by going to emoze site. Happy pushing!

I’ve tried this application as I have a Gmail email. After I setup my account, it starts initial sync. It establishes the connection, then tries to log in, but the connection closes, then retry and retry, but no success. Other applications uses network connection normally. Do you have any idea?

Nor did I, Ali! However, when I tried to enter myname@googlemail.com, there was a specific message from emoze to say googlemail addresses were not supported. I then tried myname@gmail.com and this was not recognised as a valid address! I have since donwloaded Google’s own software for viewing its e-mail, syncing with calendar events and viewing Google Maps on mobiles and this is great.

To be honest with you gmail application is much better then emoze…emoze still has a lot of kinks. myname@gmail.com was being recognized but I had to input the address a couple of times. For me Mail For Exchange and gmail app does it.

Yeah, I think you’re right, Ali. The Gmail app for S60 is very good and can be recommended to all users.

If you have a googlemail address simply enter it as a gmail one. For example username@gmail.com.
Apparentley Google can’t et anyone in the UK register a GMail address,it’s just a coincidence that both work with your Username. Good luck
