Iphone at a glance…..mmmm!

iphone

I know, I know this is a s60devices blog and talking about an iphone is a taboo….but I just can’t resist. My friend walked in with his iphone today I was on my beloved e61i chatting with a friend. From the corner of my eye I could see a sexy looking device lying on my center table. I got very distracted while talking on my e61i to the extent I told him to bugger off. I then calmly asked my friend; Is this the iphone? very innocently he replied, yes it is! By the was this guy WAS a serious Nokia N95 power user.

I asked him to show it to me, it was locked and said swipe to unlock. I swiped it with my finger and just liked that the beautiful beast woke up! ahhhhh! If you see the picture above, it does not do justice to what the device really feels like in your hands.

I immediately asked him where the browser was like an internet junkie desperate for his fix. It was a rather stupid question as the big blue button was the browser. I simply touched it and the browser opened in a split of a second of a previous website he had already opened which was in a layout mode, I touched the layout mode and the full screen mode came alive. I was completely taken aback by the size of the web page perfectly displayed in beautiful colors. He told me to touch one of the links. I did just that and the link opened up faster than any browser I have seen recently. To zoom in you open your fingers to zoom out…well I have forgotten…. He told me to to rotate the screen as soon as I did that the whole web page became horizontal like magic! I just could not believe my eyes what I was seeing…..the colors, full size web mode, what it did when I touched it….oh my god!It was fantastic or I would say orgasmic, well not that good!

I have to sleep so part 2 will come soon….since I had just 15 minutes I just quickly checked sms, contacts, mail and ipod icons so will post their min review tomorrow.

To be honest with you I do not care what people say it is one of the most beautiful devices I have recently seen in my entire life, so intitutive, user friendly and a just a class above a normal device. Absolutely revolutionary!

Keep the questions coming if you have any.

maybe in the beginning i was impressed by this phone.. but for the day 2 day use, i’d prefer my E61i

This doesn’t happen often, but, for once, we U.S. folks get dibs on a cool device before Europe does. That was the case with the iPhone, so many U.S. consumers are already over the coolness of the iPhone by now, although it remains a very innovative phone. And by that I mean that it has an innovative interface (WAY COOL), because, contrary to what commercials want to make you believe, nothing the phone does is really new. It’s just done differently. And, like anything Apple makes, the style is simple, yet beautiful and the finish is top notch.

All that being said, I could never replace my E61 or my E61i (or any Series 60 device for that matter) for an iPhone. I could live with not having video (the amazing quality of the iPhone photos make it all worth it). I could even live with the small touchscreen keyboard that offers no tactile feedback (an extremely important factor most people seem to ignore). What I could not live with is the lack of real multi-tasking and a task manager.

You see, they advertised the iPhone as a multi-tasking phone, but this really means you can play music in the background while doing other things. You cannot have Safari open (which, I agree, is the best mobile web browser to date), the e-mail application open and an instant messenger open, all at the same time, and switch back and forth. This is something I normally do on my Nokias.

The iPhone is a VERY cool phone with a very cool and quick interface. This is how it should be sold and not as a device where “you can finally have your music, e-mail and contacts together”. Welcome to 5 years ago, Apple! That is nothing new.
